Carpet manufacturer trims waste costs

A leading carpet manufacturer has got its waste needs fully covered thanks to a revised recycling system that includes new Greenbank compactors.

In addition, since innovative flooring manufacturer Burmatex - a brand of Airea plc - installed the machines, it has seen as much as a 40 percent reduction in waste disposal costs
as well as lower carbon emissions.

The West Yorkshire based business, which is one of the UK's leading manufacturers of
contract carpets and carpet tiles, installed two new compactors from the recycling and waste specialists Greenbank in Middlesbrough.

Since then the company has enjoyed a number of benefits. Purchasing Manager Lorna Hobbs explained that the compactors were introduced as part of a wider scheme to improve the recycling rates of the business, cut the carbon footprint and reduce any waste going to landfill.

"The compactors ensure that we always have a full skip before it is emptied. This reduces the number of collections required, meaning a reduction in carbon emissions and company spending."

Lorna added: "Having a compactor and a covered skip ensures that there is no danger of any waste escaping which also ensures our site is clean and tidy."

One of the Greenbank compactors is designated for mixed recycling from both the manufacturing process and the offices - mainly paper, plastics, synthetic yarns and cardboard - whilst the other is used as a general waste skip.

Elaborating on why Burmatex chose Greenbank machines, Lorna added: "They offered exactly what we were looking for: competent machines at competitive prices, matched with excellent customer service."

"They are flexible to our needs and do everything they can to resolve any issues quickly and with minimal disruption."

Greenbank Account Manager Kyle McLean is delighted that the compactors have proved to be such a success for Burmatex.

"It is really satisfying to be able to provide a solution to a client that not only meets their requirements but also saves them money," he added.
