Tetley make tea bags make savings
Typhoo Since waste handling and recycling equipment supplier, Greenbank, installed the machine at the Teesside plant, skip collections have been cut from once a week to once or twice a month. That, in turn, has meant a reduction in its transport costs and carbon footprint. Manufacturing Engineer, Mike Peacock, said they were not the only benefits:
"Our housekeeping has also improved significantly because the mobile compactor is enclosed, whereas a standard waste skip is totally open," he added.
"Waste materials - especially tea dust and light cardboard packaging - used to get blown out of the skip creating cleanliness and housekeeping issues."
Greenbank, whose head office is just 10 miles down the road from the Eaglescliffe factory near Stockton on Tees, installed a Mobile Compactor model PCW20 to help the company dispose of a mixture of waste tea bags, cardboard cartons, corrugated cardboard and plastic film.
Mike explained: "We were reorganising our production facilities and, because we knew we would not get contamination into the production process with a self-contained compactor unit, we were able to remove the walls surrounding the compactor which
was really helpful to us."
"We have used Greenbank before and, although we did get other quotes, selected them as they are a very professional company. They didn't just sell or lease a basic machine but provided a full service, liaising with us to ensure we ended up with a solution that would work for us and achieve all the things we were looking for."
Robin Evershed, Greenbank's Sales Director, said they had been delighted to have been able to provide the solutions for Tata Global Beverages.
He added: "We pride ourselves on going the extra mile for customers - whether they are large household names or small independent businesses - and that is what makes Greenbank stand out from other waste and recycling machine suppliers."
