RWM 2017 proves a success

RWM 2017 proves a success

RWM 2017 proves a success

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our existing customers for calling in on our stand last week and for the opportunity to connect with new potential customers and suppliers.

We had an excellent 3 days showcasing our products, on the stand we had with us a B4 baler and a self-cleaning compactor. Outside we displayed our CC40 compact baler and a mill size baler.

Our range of accessories proved to be very popular, especially the coloured strapping, you can find the e-commerce link to the coloured strapping here

We did notice this year that the exhibition itself seemed to be quieter, but we had a lot of interest from new customers, we wonder if it was the stand design that attracted more people or our company reputation? If you have a view, we would love to know!

If you weren’t able to attend the exhibition and would like more information on our latest innovations, please get in touch with a member of the team.

Is landfill tax giving you a headache?

Is landfill tax giving you a headache?

Is landfill tax giving you a headache?

As of 1 April 2017, the standard rate of landfill tax increased from £84.40 per tonne to £86.10 per tonne. The Treasury has also announced that the tax is set to increase further in 2018, when it will reach £88.95 per tonne.

The landfill tax represents a costly expense that impacts a business’s bottom line. But by lowering the amount you pay, you’ll see year-on-year savings.

How can you avoid the rise?

All waste sent to landfill is taxable, but by reducing what is sent to landfill companies can make huge savings.

Greenbank specialises in waste management and has helped many clients reduce waste to landfill, with many achieving zero to landfill.

For companies producing large amounts of waste, recycling is the easiest way to divert waste sent to landfill. Despite common beliefs that recycling measures can be expensive, they actually increase efficiency and can create an extra revenue stream. Recyclers pay for materials that are in demand – cardboard, polythene, polystyrene and more.

Balers are one of our most popular products, and these are used to compress recyclable materials into manageable bales that can be easily stored until they are collected.

With these, waste is stored away, collections are timely and revenue is generated from the sale of recyclables. Better still, diverting waste from landfill is environmentally friendly, and means many businesses are a huge step closer to achieving their sustainability targets.

How compact can an automatic baler be?

How compact can an automatic baler be?

How compact can an automatic baler be?

If you produce a high amount of recyclable material but don’t have a lot of space for a machine to compact it then a Greenbank compact channel baler could be just what you’re looking for.

A standard automatic channel baler is around eight or nine metres long, Greenbank’s compact machine measures under 5 metres including the run off bale.

Features and Benefits

• The compact design is achieved through the use of a push-needle, automatic binding system and the special position of the hydraulic cylinders

• The plunger works silently due to the fact that it runs in low-wear, adjustable polyamide guides on all sides

• A continuously high bale quality is achieved by a system of blade and counter-blade

• The baler uses a low quantity of binding wire or PVC binding strap

• A touch panel PLC system makes the unit userfriendly, enabling important parameters to be set with ease

• It is available with either automatic or manual binding function

• It comes in a choice of colours, using lead and chromium-free paint.

The Greenbank Bake Off

The Greenbank Bake Off

The Greenbank Bake Off

As many of you may be aware last week we completed a Greenbank bake off, each cake was scored on appearance and taste.

We’ve had a great week tasting and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for getting involved. Although everyone did take part, we did witness a lot of cheating!

Murray bought a cake to decorate, Warren had help from his sister and Elliot bought a loaf of bread from Lidl two minutes before judging commenced but it was all in good fun 😊!

Please see the daily leaderboard below.

Monday Warren Evershed

17.10
Tuesday Becca Northorp

17.14
Wednesday Adrian Saltmarsh

18.62
Thursday Emily Hindley

18.22
Friday Duncan

18.69

Congratulations Duncan Evershed, thinking outside the box clearly worked!

Some days were closer than others, Wednesday proved a fairly close day between Adrian and Romie and Friday proved close between all contestants.

1st Duncan – 18.69
2nd Adrian – 18.62
3rd Wayne – 18.44

283 years experience

283 years experience

283 years experience

Greenbank has over 280 years’ experience within the waste management industry. We pride ourselves on our fantastic employees, our great range of quality products and the after-sales service we provide to our customers.

Talented employees are hard to come by and even harder to retain, with an employee turnover rate of 0% Greenbank must be doing something right. We asked several of our employees what made them happy and here are the results.

Support

Each Monday morning the Greenbank team gather to evaluate the week previous and plan for the week ahead. If the findings show that an individual may be struggling slightly, the full team provide support and a viable solution.

“When I first joined Greenbank, I was overwhelmed by the support I received from the team, even now we do things for each other without question. It’s a real team effort.”

Murray Johnson

Atmosphere

Each director works alongside the team at Greenbank, each specialising in a different department. Micro management is something that is avoided at all costs, they put their trust in each employee to fulfill their role to the maximum potential.

“When you walk into the Greenbank office, you instantly feel at ease the atmosphere is very relaxed, it’s a great working environment. It may not work for every company, but it definitely works here”.

Rose Jones

Perks

Every Friday, each employee fills out a dinner form for the following week, fresh food is then delivered every day. The cost is picked up by Greenbank.

“Getting your dinner delivered each day free of charge is a real advantage, it’s practically unheard of in other companies. It’s obvious that the directors care about the well-being of staff members, they’ve even built a gym for us for when we’ve had too many pasties!”

Jamie Taylor

Acknowledgement

“For each task that’s completed, no matter how large or small its appreciated. Appreciation, in my opinion, is better than any monetary perks. Often staying five, ten or fifteen minutes after your finishing time is the norm in most businesses, but here at Greenbank you are encouraged to leave on time. If you do stay back you are thanked, it’s lovely.”

Laura Mohan

Inclusion

With our service engineers being on the road, it’s harder to include them in the daily fun aspects of Greenbank but we do try our hardest. They are involved within each email string, they attend employee of the month whenever possible and visit the office whenever they are local to say hello!

“Recently an ice cream van attended our HQ with being out the road we thought we were going to miss out but we were encouraged to purchase an ice cream and put it on expenses. It’s nice to still feel included even if you don’t take up the opportunity.”

Will Bennett

Uniform

We recently provided employees with new tailored shirts, to go alongside their suits.

“In most office environments, you are encouraged to dress smart but receive no help to fund the clothing, we each received an allowance to go out and buy a couple of suits. Many customers compliment our dress code, as within our industry its often avoided. We feel as if it gives us an extra degree of professionalism.”

Phil Jones

Family feel

“Although Greenbank is a family owned business, you would never know. Each employee at Greenbank is considered part of the family, we are all there for one another. It’s a great feeling coming to work and being surrounded by people you enjoy spending time with.”

Nicola Jackson

Client relationships

At Greenbank we pride ourselves on providing great relationships with our clients, suppliers and employees.

“Working in the customer service department I deal with a variety of people from our field engineers, to suppliers and most often our clients. I’d like to say that I have built great relationships with the majority of Greenbank’s clients, with some even donating football tickets for the team to enjoy.”

99% first time fix rate – July 2017

99% first time fix rate – July 2017

99% first time fix rate – July 2017

Although July was a very busy month for our service team, we were still able to achieve a 99% first time fix rate and an average call out time of 14 hours.

Our priority has always been to minimise the amount of downtime for our customers, we wouldn’t be able to complete this without our field engineers who are prepared to go the extra mile on a daily basis.

During July Greenbank’s lead engineer Will Bennet, worked closely with field engineer Phil Ellis teaching him the fundamentals of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic principles on waste equipment. Since the training Phil has achieved a 100% first time fix rate.

If you’re attending the RWM visit Greenbank’s stand (5Q21), Phil Jones will be representing Greenbank’s service team.

We’ve had visitors!

We’ve had visitors!

We’ve had visitors!

Yesterday we had the pleasure of four students from Focus School York Campus visiting our office. The students are participating in a Young Enterprise Scheme, as part of their studies.

The scheme involves students creating a business idea, but unlike many other similar schemes, they must put the idea into action. Each business is required to elect a board of members, raise share capital from a panel of real investors (dragons den style) and create, sell and market their products.

Each business must then create a trade stand, complete a presentation on their business and produce a business report. Judges will then present awards for the business with the Best Presentation, Best Innovation and Best Trade Stand.

Whilst spending the day at Greenbank, the students learnt about the waste management industry, and utilised our industry experts to their full potential to figure out the potential gaps in the market.

Robin Evershed, Managing Director at Greenbank said: “The Young Enterprise Scheme is a fantastic idea, it develops students understanding of entrepreneurship and how businesses function along with promoting innovation. The scheme also gives students an increased understanding of career options when they leave school. We are excited to see which product the team decide on and we have been promised regular updates.”

Transflex invests in new fleet of vans for Greenbank

Light commercial vehicle rental company, Transflex, has invested £75,000 in new vans on behalf of Middlesbrough-based Greenbank, for its team of field service engineers.

The Teesside-based waste management company, Greenbank has added a further three Ford Transit Trend models to its existing fleet, now totalling eight vehicles. The fleet expansion will help Greenbank increase its capacity to continue to deliver outstanding services across the region.

Transflex provides businesses with flexible commercial vehicle hire, the company’s headquarters is located in Stockton-On-Tees. It also operates branches across the UK in Buckingham, Warrington and Bristol – which opened on 12 June 2017.

The new vans are fully equipped with tool racking systems, improved security locks and inverters which allow Greenbank engineers to operate independently when onsite.

Phil Jones, service manager at Greenbank, said: “I’ve dealt with Transflex for six years now, they have consistently exceeded my expectations by going the extra mile. Transflex’s onsite servicing facility allows minimal disruption to our field engineers, downtime is essentially non-existent.

“Our field engineers are based throughout the UK, we often deal with all four Transflex branches and the attention to personal service is consistent in each location.”

Gary Henry, sales director at Transflex, said: “At Transflex we pride ourselves on producing tailored solutions that meet the precise requirements of our clients. It’s been a pleasure working with Greenbank over the past six years. We’ve added to their existing fleet – meeting their bespoke requirements which allows their business to operate efficiently.

“It’s important to us that we tailor our rental packages to suit the individual needs of our clients rather than an ‘off the shelf’ solution. We look forward to working with Greenbank again in the future.”
