At Greenbank Recycling Solutions, we’re driven by one mission: to make sustainable recycling simple, efficient, and accessible through advanced, reliable recycling technology.

With over 30 years of experience in aligning customer needs with the right machinery solutions, we know what it takes to turn problematic expanded foam into valuable, manageable resources.

Our machines are designed to handle a variety of expanded foam materials, including EPE (Expanded Polyethylene). By incorporating a heavy-duty pre-crusher into our standard EPS compactors, we’ve made them capable of efficiently processing EPE. This allows the material to be compacted into dense, stackable blocks that can be recycled, monetised, or repurposed, supporting both operational efficiency and your business’s sustainability objectives.

What Is EPE and Why Should Businesses Care?

Expanded Polyethene (EPE) is a soft, flexible, and highly shock-absorbent foam widely used in protective packaging, particularly in electronics and appliance industries.

Unlike Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), EPE’s softer structure makes it more challenging to process. Recycling EPE requires specialised equipment and optimised processes to ensure efficiency.

As industries continue to use EPE in large quantities, businesses are under increasing pressure to handle this material responsibly and sustainably. That’s where Greenbank Recycling Solutions steps in.

EPE Material Trials: Refining the Process

To ensure our machines deliver exceptional results with EPE , Greenbank Recycling Solutions has conducted extensive material trials. These trials test how our compactors perform with different EPE materials, helping us refine: Processing temperatures, Compaction ratios and Feed rates.

This allows us to guarantee consistent, reliable performance across all EPE types, helping businesses reduce their environmental impact while cutting costs.

EPE Material Trials: Key Insights

Our trials delivered valuable data on how our compactors perform when processing EPE materials. The machines successfully handled around 150 kg (330 lbs) of EPE per hour, producing compacted blocks with a density of 460 kg (770 lbs) per cubic metre. With a compaction ratio of 14:1, this represents a highly effective solution for reducing volume.

It’s worth noting that, unlike EPS, EPE doesn’t naturally fuse during compaction unless processed with a melting unit. Despite this, the trials were a clear success.

The pre-crusher effectively broke down the material into fine particles, and the impressive compaction ratio highlights a significant opportunity for EPE producers to minimise landfill use and enhance their overall recycling process.

Smarter Recycling Solutions Through Innovation

At Greenbank, innovation is at the heart of everything we do. By analysing how EPE behaves during compaction, we’ve enhanced our machine designs to be: More energy-efficient, have faster processing and be easier to operate.

This means your business can reduce storage space, lower transportation costs, and even generate revenue from what was once considered waste, all while supporting a circular economy.
